This week we expanded our pentatonic minor scale to 3 strings and did some review.

This week work on:

  • Review (all songs up to this point)
  • Master "Jump the Gun" p19
  • At least 3 strings of the pentatonic minor scale p20
  • Let it Be

This week we were introduced to TAB, continued work on the pentatonic minor scale and learned a Beatles song!  Remember, just 15 minutes of practice everyday will make a huge difference in a short time!

This week work on:

  • Review (All songs we have learned to this point)
  • Grabbing chords - D, G, C, Am, Em
  • Slowly play through the pentatonic minor scale (p 20)
  • Work on 'Let It Be"

We started exploring the pentatonic minor scale this week and added a new song to our repertoire.

This week work on:

  • Review (any songs you have not yet mastered)
  • Master "Jump the Gun" to where you can play along with the DVD
  • Get the first 2 notes of the A Pentatonic Minor scale down (both on the low E string, 5th fret with first finger and 8th fret with fourth finger)

This week we worked some more on the Em chord and learned about Anticipations.  We then used both in the new song "Jump the Gun"

This week

  • Review everything we've done in the past.  Keep working on the songs until you have them mastered! (Just 2 Lonely Chords and Beach Rider)
  • Work on Grabbing chords - G, D, Am, C, and Em
  • Practice "Jump the Gun" and get it up to speed so you can play along with the DVD.

In addition to review we discussed Notes, Chords, Diatonic and Chromatic scales and half steps vs whole steps.  All of which can be found on page 14 of your book.  Finally we introduced the Em chord.

This week

  • Review
    • Play with DVD and master "2 Lonely Chords" p 11
    • Play with DVD and master "Beach Rider" p 13
  • Review (read) p 14 - Check your understanding with the quiz on p 15
  • Practice and memorize the Em chord
  • Practice "grabbing" D, G, C, Am and Em

In addition to reviewing the G and D chords we added C and Am to our arsenal today.  We also learned about the difference between major and minor chords.  Remember, 15-20 minutes of practice every day will make a HUGE improvement in your playing!

This Week Work On

  • Review and master "We're Just 2 Lonely Chords" p 11 (play along with the DVD)
  • Practice "grabbing" G, D, C and Am
  • Practice changing from C to Am and back (only one finger moves)
  • Extra credit - Play along with "Beach Rider" p 13

Guitar I Class Materials from 9/12/13

This week we talked about rhythm and note values and added the G chord to our repertoire.  We also played our first song and played along with the DVD.  Most all of the students said they wanted to practice 30 minutes a day.  That would be fantastic.  A minimum of 15 minutes a day will make a big difference!

This week work on:

  • Practice "grabbing" D and G chords
  • Play along with "Two Lonely Chords" on the DVD p 11
