In addition to review we discussed Notes, Chords, Diatonic and Chromatic scales and half steps vs whole steps.  All of which can be found on page 14 of your book.  Finally we introduced the Em chord.

This week

  • Review
    • Play with DVD and master "2 Lonely Chords" p 11
    • Play with DVD and master "Beach Rider" p 13
  • Review (read) p 14 - Check your understanding with the quiz on p 15
  • Practice and memorize the Em chord
  • Practice "grabbing" D, G, C, Am and Em

In addition to reviewing the G and D chords we added C and Am to our arsenal today.  We also learned about the difference between major and minor chords.  Remember, 15-20 minutes of practice every day will make a HUGE improvement in your playing!

This Week Work On

  • Review and master "We're Just 2 Lonely Chords" p 11 (play along with the DVD)
  • Practice "grabbing" G, D, C and Am
  • Practice changing from C to Am and back (only one finger moves)
  • Extra credit - Play along with "Beach Rider" p 13

This week we talked about rhythm and note values and added the G chord to our repertoire.  We also played our first song and played along with the DVD.  Most all of the students said they wanted to practice 30 minutes a day.  That would be fantastic.  A minimum of 15 minutes a day will make a big difference!

This week work on:

  • Practice "grabbing" D and G chords
  • Play along with "Two Lonely Chords" on the DVD p 11

It's been a great year!  All of the musicians have all come a long way and so on Thursday we will celebrate their accomplishments!  I would like to invite all parents to join us on Thursday, 5/30 in the Music Room for our year end recital.  The recital will start at 3:30 and I will start tuning everyone up at 3:15.
